Richard has an honours degree in Pure and Applied Physics from The University of Manchester and is a Chartered and European Patent Attorney and a European Trade Mark and Design Attorney.
Richard has been practising Intellectual Property Law since 1988 and practised as a Partner in a city centre firm of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys, before leaving in January 2009 to set up his own practice.
Richard's practice covers a wide range of patent matters in the field of mechanical, electrical, electronic and software technologies as well as a significant amount of trademark and design work. Richard has considerable experience of representing clients in contentious and adversarial proceedings and has personally appeared before the Examining Division, Opposition Division and Technical Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office. Richard has instructed Counsel directly in a number of cases before the UK Patents Court and also the Court of Appeal.
Richard has been a tutor for the Robert Schuman University of Strasbourg training course for European Patent Attorneys and has lectured on the Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law course at The University of Manchester. Richard has also contributed to the text European Patents SourceFinder.
Jo graduated from The University of Manchester with a MChem (Hons) in Chemistry with Patent Law and joined Hill-IP in December 2009.
Jo is currently training to qualify as a Chartered and European Patent Attorney and Registered Trade Mark Attorney. Jo deals with a wide range of subject matter in addition to her specialist area of chemistry and biochemistry. Jo also advises on trade mark and design issues.
Jo is an associate member of The Royal Society of Chemistry and is also a member of CIPA and ITMA.
Ulla manages the support services within the firm, including organising and overseeing all of the administrative support to our attorneys, as well as management of the accounts and personnel.
Ulla is also responsible for coordinating any IP search requests from our Attorneys and maintains the comprehensive in-house database and time management system.
Naomi graduated with an honours degree in Computer Science from DeMontfort University and has, since graduation, worked for blue chip companies in both the UK and USA.
Naomi has extensive experience in application development, web design and project management and has built up a wide range of business knowledge through working in the entertainment industry as well as the Financial, Manufacturing and Legal sectors.
Naomi joined Hill-IP as I.T. Manager in April 2009 and is responsible for developing and maintaining bespoke applications for our database and time management system, which is continually monitored and updated to ensure that our clients benefit from the most up to date technology.
